Frequently Asked Questions About Downsizing

Frequently Asked Questions

We’re always happy to have a conversation about what’s on your mind, but here are answers to a few questions we’re commonly asked.

We have helped hundreds of clients downsize and move. Since we’ve pretty much seen it all, we can help you avoid common pitfalls.

You’ll have access to a ResettleMe Move Manager who will serve as your primary point of contact for handling everything related to your move.

You won’t need to save boxes ahead of your move — or get rid of them afterward!

You can tap our significant expertise in approaches and resources that save money, reduce stress and produce quality results.

By having our help with the physical and emotional work involved in making your move, you’ll preserve your energy for enjoying your new home from your very first day there!

The cost of our services depends on the extent of assistance desired and the amount of time involved. During a free, no-obligation in-home consultation, we can discuss the type of help you are interested in obtaining and get a sense of how much work may be involved. We will then provide you with a fee estimate before you make a decision about engaging us to help with your move.

In an ideal situation we would start working together between 2 and 4 months prior to your move. However, the timeframes of our involvement vary from a week (sometimes even less) to more than a year, depending on the situation. For longer timeframes our initial help generally involves guidance with high-level move planning and downsizing strategies, and activity ramps up as the move approaches. In general, as soon as you know where and approximately when you plan to move, let’s talk.

We only work with properly licensed and insured moving companies. The movers in our regular rotation have earned our trust over multiple jobs by proving their dependability, efficiency, careful handling of property, and competitive pricing. When recommending a mover for a specific job we consider the timing, locations of the load and unload, and the volume and nature of items to be moved.

You can certainly do so; however, neither we nor the movers will have any liability for damage to those items that may occur during the move. We are professional packers and know how to best protect your items. Additionally, our team has an excellent track record of being able to recall where something we’ve packed and unpacked can be found in the home. When we haven’t seen what you’ve packed yourself, we aren’t able to help you find it later.

No, sorry. While we know all about how to downsize and move, our expertise does not extend to judging the value of items and finding the best market for them. We often, however, refer others with appropriate credentials and experience for helping with this, such as appraisers, estate sale companies, consignment shops, and buy-out companies. And if you don’t already have a realtor, we are happy to supply contact information for those who have earned high marks from previous ResettleMe clients.
